The first round of the 2019-20 season saw mixed results for Kwinana Cricket Club.

A new look 2nd Grade team made the perfect start to their title defence against newly-promoted Jandakot Park at Atwell Oval.

After being asked to field Kwinana made a good start reducing Jandakot to 4-57.

The lower order fought back and reached 151 at the end of their 40.

Geoff Perera was at his best claiming 3-18.

Kwinana struggled early falling to 6-79 before Lincoln Dwyer hit an unbeaten 57 to guide Kwinana to victory.

They finished the innings on 7-159.

A young 4th Grade team travelled to Piara Waters Reserve to take on Piara Waters.

Kwinana was sent into bat and made a great start with the openers putting on an 88 run partnership before Paul Schlinger fell for 44.

One brand two but debutant Blake Newton (25) steadied the innings alongside Phil Kiernan (35).

Kwinana finished the innings with a competitive score of 6-155 but lost opening bowler Travis Barkla to a fractured arm after a fall taking a quick single.

The bowlers took consistent wickets, but an unpredictable pitch and stiff breeze saw plenty of sundries.

It came down to the wry with Piara Water’s tail order just creeping over the line they finished the match all out for 170.

Newton was impressive with the ball taking two wickets upfront.
